An Introduction to Twining (Part One) is the first of a linked series of three, two-part classes. This first course will introduce the technique of twining; a simple off loom weaving process worked in the hands with a few simple tools. Twining involves the weaving of two active elements around a passive warp to create a dense weft face surface.

How to twine, for right/left-handed
Language of a twined basket
Suitable materials and use of simple tools
Beginning, ending, finishing, joining in new threads, tensioning
Learn how to make a motif
How and why to keep a sketchbox
How to twine a simple ‘pod’ form
Two simple twined patterns; horizontal bands, chasing spiral
